I am starting this blog in hopes that is fosters the same discipline as my A Passion for Small Paintings blog - painting on a regular basis. I have always loved watercolors and I have been so consumed by my oil paintings lately that I have not painted watercolors as much as I would like. I am not sure where I am going with them. I might sell them. I get attached to my watercolor studies though so I will just have to see.
It rained most of the day so I set my computer up like I was looking at this scene and painted it. I use Kremer pigments and this study is done on Khadi paper - 200lb. I like the texture of the Khadi paper and the way the pigments granulate on it. I am always challenged with this media. I like watercolors that show what a wash can do and maintain a wet, washy quality. I try to (forgive the pun)go with the flow when I am painting. I hope you enjoy them.

Love your watercolors! Wish I could do your kind of painting, nice and loose and juicy. I am always struggling to not be photo realistic...any hints?

Carole,
I struggle to stay loose. I think it is a lot like exercise. You keep working out so you a ready for the race. I consider watercolors a performance medium. It either works or it doesn't. I think if you learn what it can do technically you are more ready to take advantage of "happy accidents and such.
Finally, my mentor Charles Reid says that watercolor is not about being perfect.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Linda,
I'm so excited about your new watercolor blog. I used to do a lot more watercolors before I got distracted by color pencils. I even posted an old watercolor last week for Illustration Friday. Please, come take a look. Your watercolors are lovely. I'm sure I will learn a lot from your new blog. It will probably be the nudge I need to go buy new paints and take it up again.

I'm so excited for your watercolor journal. I used to do more watercolors until I got distracted by color pencils. I posted one of my old watercolors on my blog last week. I think your new blog might be the incentive I need to go buy new paint and take up watercolor again. Your watercolors are beautiful!
vickie,
thanks for your comments! I just changed my palette and will be putting up more work this weekend. It was my first week back at teaching so I was consumed with getting everything started.
